Special Message from PRSA-NY's New President

Sharon D. Fenster
Dear Friends and Colleagues of PRSA-NY,
Happy New Year! Today marks my first week as President of PRSA-NY, and I am so excited!
At our Board Retreat on November 13th, 2017, I went for being as authentic and transparent with you as possible. I told you about my obese youth, my battle and victory over mental illness and how I made it in New York City PR as a poor, blonde Jewish girl from Brooklyn without an Ivy League education and a Brooklyn accent. I did that not just to make a point about my first-hand experience with stereotypes and discrimination but to also set the tone of behavior for 2018.
Moving forward, let’s all be our authentic selves with each other. Let it be known that at PRSA-NY, we hold great value in transparency and authenticity. That we believe in acceptance and appreciating each other for who we are—not who we pretend to be.
Let’s acknowledge right now that every voice among us is important—most especially those of truth and transparency. And let’s come together as a team and stand behind those principles and each other in 2018.
If we were to only do that this year then we would have accomplished great things. Let’s be agents of change among each other and for each other and the PR community.
