New York City
is home to more than 150,000 Ukrainians, the largest such community in the country, with pockets in Manhattan’s East Village and Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, and scattered populations throughout the five boroughs. We support the people of Ukraine,
near and far.
Below is a list of organizations where PRSA-NY members, supporters, and stakeholders can show their support for Ukraine.
Care.org Ukraine Crisis Fund
CARE’s mission is to save lives, defeat poverty, achieve social justice, and fight for women and girls. Its Ukraine Crisis Fund aims to reach 4 million civilians with immediate aid, including recovery operations, food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial
support, and cash assistance — prioritizing women and girls, families, and the elderly. Visit bit.ly/3MfvkHq to donate.
International Committee of the Red Cross
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is working closely with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society as it increases it response to the humanitarian needs in Ukraine, where the organization has been working since 2014. ICRC support includes
emergency assistance such as food, water, and other essential items, as well as providing hospitals and primary healthcare facilities with medical equipment and emergency preparedness. ICRC also connects families separated by the crisis and
repairs water stations and homes so they are suitable for use. To donate to ICRC, please visit bit.ly/3MeOGfN.
International Rescue Committee (IRC)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking donations to rush critical aid to displaced families in Ukraine. “Ukrainian authorities suggest that if the war continues at the current pace, 5 million people could become refugees,” said Lani
Fortier, Senior Director of Delivery in Emergencies at the IRC. “In Poland, which is preparing to receive up to 1 million refugees, the IRC is working to scale up support to the government and civil society and to provide for the basic needs
of people fleeing the conflict. The IRC has connected with partners to establish a response that will provide critical support to civilians forced to flee their homes.” To help support IRC, please visit bit.ly/3C70Y5b.
United Nations Crisis Relief
The United Nation’s Ukraine Humanitarian Fund is one of the quickest and most effective ways to directly support urgent humanitarian relief on the ground. The UN estimates that 12 million people still within Ukraine will need relief, while more
than 4 million Ukrainian refugees may need assistance in neighboring countries. The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are committed to staying and delivering assistance and protection to the people of Ukraine. You can donate to its Ukraine Humanitarian Fund here: bit.ly/3sxycaE.
UNICEF: Children in Crossfire of Ukraine Crisis
UNICEF works throughout eastern Ukraine, specifically in the Donbas region, delivering lifesaving programs for nearly 3.4 million people — including 510,000 children. Some of those programs include bringing safe water to conflict areas, prepositioning
health, hygiene and emergency education supplies, and supporting mobile child protection teams. "Heavy weapons fire along the line of contact has already damaged critical water infrastructure and education facilities in recent days," UNICEF
Executive Director Catherine M. Russell said in a Feb. 24 statement. "Unless the fighting subsides, tens of thousands of families could be displaced, dramatically escalating humanitarian needs."
