Tell us about CooperKatz and the type of work you do.
Founded in 1996, CooperKatz is an award-winning, independent communications firm in New York City, offering a unique in-house combination of public relations, creative services and digital capabilities. Our vision is to cultivate a team of authentic, passionate partners who continually push creative boundaries to help our clients inspire change and influence behaviors.

Why did you/your team feel it was important to enter the 2016 Big Apple Awards?
CooperKatz is immensely proud to be an agency born and bred here in New York City. We love that the Big Apple Awards celebrate the year’s best campaigns, all of which were devised and executed here in NYC. We also know it is important to share our best practices, strategies and ideas throughout the public relations community to inspire one another and continue delivering great results for our clients. Of course, it is always a pleasure to mix and mingle with our peers at the annual gala as well.

How did your team celebrate after learning you had won?
We have been the AOR for Coldwell Banker Real Estate for nearly a decade – some of us on the account for its entirety! Therefore we are a tight knit group that truly likes working together. Every year, we have an annual outing to celebrate our achievements. The Big Apple award was most certainly on the list.

What has winning an award meant to your team / agency (e.g., how do you use the award for strengthening team morale, celebrating the agency’s good work, promoting the agency to current and new clients, etc.)?
We were honored to be recognized for our work, especially in a category geared specifically to Marketing for Animal Care because it is a passion for so many of us here at CooperKatz. Our agency has a strong background in pet PR, and we pour our heart and souls into every campaign.  The Coldwell Banker Real Estate “Homes for Dogs Project” was developed in partnership to find homes for 20,000 dogs. Knowing that we succeeded, ultimately saving the lives of 20,000 dogs, is the greatest morale booster of all.  

In your view, how does the Big Apple differs from other industry award programs?
The Big Apple award is special because it recognizes PR campaigns and tactics executed here in NYC. The contest provides us with an opportunity to interact with other agencies and PR professionals to learn about the great things happening here in our own backyard.

Are there any anecdotes, interesting challenges overcome, or unique experiences that came from the Big Apple process (including your Gala experience)?
One of the most memorable parts about the Big Apple process was the gala night. We were overjoyed to learn we had won the award, but the collective “Awww” in the room after attendees watched our Home’s Best Friend commercial featuring rescue dogs reaffirmed the incredibly powerful (and adorable) work we did.
