 Feeling My PRide Happy Hour & Networking Event

We are thrilled to invite you to another PRSA-NY event, as we continue to celebrate Pride this month and throughout the year with our Feeling My PRide Happy Hour & Networking Event! You'll have a chance to network with PR PRide, Media Pros and Trailblazers. We have a fun celebrity appearance with the incredible Carson Kressley - Carson will be joining us in the beginning of the event, so please make sure to arrive early to celebrate with him and the rest of our partners below! 

All are welcome to join us on Monday, June 29 at 5pm ET for this FREE event, as we will highlight ways to come together and support by collaboration, sharing best practices, media pitching tips, and discussing recent relevant campaigns showcasing the amazing work over the years and recently. PRSA-NY launched Feeling My PRide to better serve our LGBTQI+ community within PRSA-NY and those outside of the organization, to encourage inclusivity and belonging within PRSA-NY and beyond throughout the PR and media communications industry as a whole.

We are excited to showcase Feeling My PRide Trailblazers to celebrate Global Pride within the PR and communications industry. The intention behind this initiative is to encourage PR and media professionals to lift each other up, come together and celebrate PR and marketers who have done an incredible job over the years supporting the LGBTQI+ community. With that said, we are absolutely honored to have partners including the Black Public Relations Society New York chapter (BPRS-NY) and the Hispanic Public Relations Association New York Chapter (HPRA-NY.) This includes Tracey Wood Mendelsohn, President & CEO of BPRS-NY and Erika Sanchez, President of HPRA-NY. We are also looking forward to having our partners across the PRSA network joining us for this special event including PRSA OC, PRSA Los Angeles, PRSA Dallas and PRSA National Capital Chapter.

Our co-hosts for the evening include Martin Tettey, PRSA-NY's D&I Co-Chair and Loren Antonio Durán, Account Supervisor at Finn Partners and Board Director of HPRA-NY. What's more, we have special guests including, GLAAD's Chief Communications Officer, Rich Ferraro; Jarryd Boyd, Public Relations Manager at Hinge and Igee Okafor, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of BOND OFFICIAL. Martin Tettey, PRSA-NY’s Co-Chair of Diversity & Inclusion


Martin Tettey is as ambitious as he is enthusiastic about Public Relations, communications, and brand development. Martin started his career working with several luxury brands, helping drive creative campaigns across the US, Latin America, and Europe. He's a firm believer in diversity and inclusion and advocates strongly for human rights. His entrepreneurial spirit expands to his love of traveling. Traveling around the world fills Martin with inspiration, knowledge, and appreciation for different customs and cultures—so when not at the office, you can find him globe-trotting around the world, adding to his list of over 21-countries & 50 cities visited to date.



Loren Antonio Durán, Account Supervisor, Finn Partners & HPRA-NY Board Director 


Loren Antonio Durán is a well-versed public relations professional, travel expert, and former airline spokesperson specializing in strategic social and traditional media relations. Loren is an Account Supervisor at Finn Partners specializing in travel. Loren graduated from St. John’s University in New York with a degree in Public Relations. Igee Okafor, Founder and Editor-In-Chief of BOND OFFICIAL


Igee Okafor, Founder and Editor-In-Chief of BOND OFFICIAL, is a determined businessman and personal style connoisseur. Igee’s significant point of view on essential articles of men’s clothing has sealed his position as an industry authority. Igee started contributing articles as an intern for Jones Magazine and the Source in the spring Of 2014. In 2015, he worked directly under CEO Of Nylon Media and Socialyte at the time, Daniel Saynt. In continuing efforts to tackle digital marketing while also running full time as a men’s style blog, Igee successfully secured collaborations with some of the industry's most respected tastemakers including MR PORTER, GQ, Carl F. Bucherer and more. 



Rich Ferraro, Chief Communications Officer, GLAAD


Rich oversees GLAAD’s Communications department as well as GLAAD's Press, Talent Relations, News and Rapid Response, and Creative departments. He also leads GLAAD's social media team, which was recognized as an Official Honoree at the 2020 Webby Awards in the category for “Social: Public Service & Activism.” Ferraro leads much of GLAAD's behind-the-scenes work with journalists, content creators, social media platforms, and global brands. Since he started at GLAAD in 2008, Ferraro has worked on hundreds of LGBTQ-inclusive media projects and in 2015 he received a Daytime Emmy Award as part of the team behind the MTV and Logo documentary “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.” He currently sits on Twitter's Trust & Safety Council and Facebook's Network of Support, organizations that provide feedback on LGBTQ policy and inclusion to both platforms. He has advised companies including Delta, P&G, Kellogg's, Absolut, Bud Light, among many others, on LGBTQ-inclusive advertising and has programmed LGBTQ private events featuring global CEOs during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.



Tracey Wood Mendelsohn, President & CEO of the Black Public Relations Association's New York Chapter (BPRS-NY)


Tracey Wood Mendelsohn is a C-Level, marketing communications, brand management, business strategist and non-profit development executive. Ms. Mendelsohn is also a serial entrepreneur, an educator (New York University, The New School University) and social justice activist. Her 30+ years of experience encompass various sectors, including; arts & humanities, entertainment, politics, luxury consumer goods, caviar, and gourmet food and travel. She is also an acknowledged expert in direct marketing, consumer promotions, membership management, and audience development, Currently, she is a Co-Principal of Human Impact Solutions and also serves as the President and CEO of Black Public Relations Society-New York, Inc., a legacy organization she is proudly helping to strengthen and grow for the future and for which she also serves as a prominent advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ms. Mendelsohn is an executive producer of media properties that appear on platforms such as Amazon Prime and Here TV.



Erika Sanchez, President of the Hispanic Public Relations Association's New York Chapter (HPRA-NY)


Erika, who founded her own agency, Braid Communications, was elected president of the Hispanic Public Relations Association New York Chapter in 2017 following seven years of service on HPRA NY’s board. She leads all aspects of the chapter – programming, partnerships, social media, membership - and works closely with the chapter and national boards to expand HPRA’s presence and provide members valuable prospects and opportunities.

Charla Jeannine Batey, MBA, APR, Communications Specialist, COX Communications / PRSA OC Chapter President

A Colorado native living in Southern California for more than 15 years, Charla is a trained print journalist (Bachelor of Arts, Literary Journalism) with an MBA in Marketing and an Accrediation in Public Relations (APR). Her passion for communications, creativity and community guides her professional and personal life activities. She has a versatile background including work in public relations, marketing, corporate communications, social media management, special events planning, fundraising and online advertising.  

Lisa Kiefer, President and CEO, Sightline Strategy / PRSA National Capital Chapter President


Lisa Kiefer is president and CEO of Sightline Strategy, which offers survey, market research and other data-driven solutions to improve internal decision-making and increase the effectiveness of external communications initiatives. Lisa formed her firm in 2019 after serving as an executive at a market research firm and leading its largest division for several years. In her 15 years of experience, Lisa has conducted research for some of the largest companies in the world, and her work in organizational leadership, research and strategic communications has spanned nearly every industry vertical.

James Shackelford, APR is accredited in public relations and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of SomaComm, Inc., a public relations, marketing, and creative agency co-headquartered in Dallas and New York. SomaComm has supported a variety of brands that include Sam’s Club, UNICEF and Microsoft Corporation to name a few. James is a frequent speaker and advisor on the topics of diversity, equality and inclusion both inside the public relations industry and broadly across brand campaigns and organizations and is a past National Chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) National Diversity & Inclusion Committee. He currently serves as a member of PRSA-NY, president of PRSA’s Dallas Chapter and is a member of the board of directors of the Irving Schools Foundation and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. James is also a member of the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden Corporate Advisory Board and the National Press Club of Washington.
