Available Positions on Key PRSA-NY Committees

A quote I heard awhile back resonated with me, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it to happen, others make it happen.” It’s true – we can watch from the sidelines or get in on the action. I’m glad I got in on the action at PRSA-NY and I’m inviting you to join me.

As the Volunteer Committee Chair for our local PRSA chapter, I’m recruiting talent for important roles on several of our chapter’s committees. These positions are reserved for PRSA-NY members, and with good reason. As a committee member, you’ll work alongside other communications professionals from top PR agencies, corporations, nonprofits and educational organizations to help shape the activities, culture and future of our chapter. While doing so, you’ll build friendships and connections that can be highly useful in your personal and professional life.

Whether you strive to grow your professional network, advance toward a PRSA-NY leadership role or just nudge yourself out of your comfort zone, volunteer service on a committee can help you achieve your goal while you help “make it happen” for our PRSA chapter. Here’s a description of our committees with current openings:

  • Programming – PRSA-NY is noted for the quality and variety of its events and the Programming Committee is the group that deserves the credit. Committee members create an annual schedule of events designed to address the wide range of interests of Chapter members. Volunteers develop the event topics, recruit top-tier speakers, research venues, work on event promotion with the Marketing Committee and manage logistics.
  • Mentoring - Through our Mentoring program, PRSA-NY brings a personal element to our organization’s commitment to professional development. The members of the Mentoring Committee recruit mentors and mentees and screen and match the candidates with a goal toward sparking mutually rewarding partnerships.
  • Membership - The Membership Committee focuses on membership growth, member engagement and retention. The committee conducts outreach efforts to help grow our organization, and develops and promotes specific member initiatives to meet the evolving needs of our Chapter’s members. Serving on the Membership Committee is a great way to meet other professionals and build lasting connections.
  • Marketing – Our Marketing Committee develops and implements strategies and tactics to spread the word about PRSA-NY events, membership promotions and special member offers across owned, earned and paid media channels. If you have a way with words, an aptitude for digital media and analytics, and a true passion for PR, this committee is the place for you!

I encourage you to visit the PRSA-NY volunteer page for a full list of the committees and complete the volunteer form to express your interest in joining a committee.

Also, do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions.  You may email me personally at: neilia.stephens@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Neilia
PRSA-NY Volunteer Committee Chair
